DRILL-TO-MILL OPTIMIZATION
Ghana - Gold
A Drill-to-Mill integration and optimization study was requested to increase the mill throughput at a gold mine in Ghana. The processing plant was 25% short of target mill throughput. It is an open-pit mine with two circuits each comprising two-stage milling – a gravity circuit and a carbon-in-leach (CIL) plant. The crushing circuit involved a two-stage crushing process. Following the D&B audit and plant surveys, advanced modelling works were carried out and the simulations were performed to improve the mill throughput. A number of issues were identified with both blasting and the crushing circuit which were limiting the mill throughput. The recommendations were followed up with the action plan. At the end of this project, the plant achieved 23% increase in mill throughput. At this large open pit mine, this project resulted in an increase in value to the operation of approximately $400m over LOM.
