Mining engineer with post graduate qualifications in rock blasting. Sedat has over 25 years of experience in the mining industry and has worked in a range of open cut metalliferous, quarry and coal mines throughout Australia and overseas. He has published over 40 technical papers in various international conferences and journals.
Before establishing his own consulting company in 2016, he worked for Orica Mining Services as a Specialist/Principal Technical Services Engineer. He was involved in numerous mining projects which include final wall blasting (wall steepening projects), blast fragmentation optimisation, vibration/airblast control, cast blasting and blast design services. Before that, he worked at Metso Minerals Process Technology & Innovation at different consulting positions (Mining Manager and Process Technology Engineer). At Metso, he participated into the greenfield and Mine to Mill Process Integration and Optimization projects globally.
He also worked in industry-funded R&D centers globally, namely Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) in Australia, Swedish Blasting Research Centre in Sweden and Mining Engineering Department in Turkey.

Esen Mining Consulting has an arrangement with CMD Consulting Pty Ltd to use the contracted services of Dr Mike Daniel who is an independent grinding circuit consultant based in Australia. Mike has extensive experience in the design and application of High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) technology as well as process audits, modelling and optimisation of comminution circuits. Mike’s clients have included Barrick Gold, Anglo American, Xstrata/Glencore, Straits Resources, Vale, Ausenco, Cliffs, Vedanta, CBH Resources, Boteti Mining, AngloGold and CITIC-HIC.

I worked closely with Sedat during my time at Cowal Gold Mine to deliver an in depth crest loss analysis project which was eventually published as a paper and presented at the Fragblast conference in Sydney. Sedat was a very diligent colleague who provided a well thought out methodology for the project which was both cost effective and fit for purpose. As a result of the project an increase in achieved catch bench widths was observed by making alterations to the blast designs as well as a cost saving in the reduction of blasting media used.
Sedat comes highly recommended in the field of technical drill and blast engineering. He delivered robust drill and blast plans to support the contract drill and blast operations for the mine site. His experience in electronic detonators also aided greatly in trialing this technology at the operation.
When I was working for Phelps Dodge Candelaria Mine in Chile, we worked with Sedat Esen to conduct a mine to mill project at our mine. Sedat was part of the consulting team and they did a comprehensive drill&blast audit, plant survey as well as simulated the entire operations using their models. The result was remarkable: approximately 15% SAG mill throughput increase. He is a great consultant who understands our needs, focusses on the results and delivers on-time. We have conducted first Mine to Mill project in Kazakhstan with Esen Mining Consulting. We have achieved significant excavator productivity, improved throughput and other benefits. EMC is a very professional company.
We are seeing immediate benefits with regards to circuit throughput. An upgrade of this circuit was conducted in 2009 and the plant was subsequently rated at 4.38 Mtpa. Indications are that we will now be capable of achieving 4.7 Mtpa. A quick calculation suggests an increase in value to the operation of approximately $400m over LOM
